Summary: Gary comes home after a bad day at uni and rants to his housemate Raoul.
Gary walked in through the front door and threw himself on the couch. His housemate looked up at him from across the room.
“Bad day?”
Gary grimaced. “The worst. I think I flunked my French test and my politics lecturer wants to have a meeting to discuss my essay.”
Raoul grimaced in sympathy. “Want a drink?”
Gary looked up sharply, but he couldn’t see any bottles near his housemate. “No thanks.” He tried to settle down on the couch again, but he was too agitated. He stood up again and began pacing in frustration.
Raoul watched him as he carefully moved his UDL can further behind the stack of books on his desk. “What do you reckon he wants?”
“He’s going to tell me he hates it. I know, because that’s what he’s said about everything else I’ve submitted. I tell you, he’s got it in for me because of my father. ‘No special favours’ he keeps telling me. Well, I never asked for any bloody special favours! All I want is to be treated the same as everyone else. But he won’t give me that chance. Just because my father’s the PM and a conservative and he’s a flippin’ socialist!”
Raoul got up and slipped an arm around Gary, pulling his head against his shoulder. “I know it’s hard now, but he’s just one lecturer in one class. You’ll pass and then you’ll never have to see him again.”
Gary sighed. He knew Raoul was right. He lifted his head slightly to reply – then froze. Carefully, he sniffed the air, before pulling away in disgust. “You’re been drinking again! God, Raoul, it’s not even 4pm!”
Raoul looked defensive. “I had a hard day too, you know!”
“Doing what?” snarled Gary. “Wagging classes and playing COD? I’m outta here.”
Gary stormed out the front door, letting it bang shut loudly behind him. Raoul hesitated in the middle of the room for a moment, before throwing himself back in his chair and attacking his drink with a vengeance.
