I also saw Fantastic Beasts and liked it. I did have very low expectations for it, but I think I would have liked it even if I'd had higher expectations, because it was good. I'm not sure how well it will hold up as a series though. Vala, I'm interested to know who you are classing as the villain, because the character I am classing as the villain is someone I would consider typically evil (though I accept that is more based on what I know of them from the broader HP universe and the historical parallels and not as much from the film).

Actually, I think the last movie I saw was Masoom. It was... surprisingly good. Of course, I like all those feel-good movies anyway, so maybe that's why I enjoyed it.

I watched Victoria and Abdul the other week - has anyone seen it? I understand they've been a little bit creative with the story (which I'm not familiar with), but it was really great to see another side to Queen Victoria, and of course, I love Judi Dench (who doesn't?). I also saw The Hitman's Bodyguard, which was as trashy an action as I was expecting, really enjoyed it (but also glad I didn't pay to see it).

I have not seen Victoria and Abdul, but it sounds interesting and I would like to see it!
I stayed with a friend last weekend, but I was sick and couldn't do much, so we watched a few movies. We saw the new release The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I loved the book when I read it years ago and I really enjoyed the movie. The scenery and costumes were beautiful and I think they told the story well.
We also watched Pride, which I hadn't seen before. For those who haven't seen it, it's the story of the mining strike under Thatcher and the support a London gay and lesbian group gave to the miners, whilst battling prejudice and the beginning of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. It's an amazing film and I loved it. The pride march at the end of the film is now one of my favourite cinematic moments ever.

I want to see that film really badly I adore Lily James, and the book was so delightful. Haven't seen Pride, though I keep meaning to; I'll put it on the list. I watched The Big Sick with my sister at the weekend, really enjoyed it! It's one that keeps cropping up when I'm flicking through Prime, and I thought it was a pleasant, realistic rom com. Also watched The Philadelphia Story for the first time, though I've seen High Society a shed-load of times. Loved it, James Stewart had me cracking up, and Katharine Hepburn is kind of wonderful.

Double post, but it's been nine months... I have finally seen The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and it was a delightful adaptation!
This week, I watched Lady Bird - oh man, there are echoes of my teenage relationship with my mother. Beautifully acted.
And last night, I went to see The Favourite - I loved it! It's not entirely historically accurate, from my knowledge of that period, but honestly, three women in lead roles, and such a complicated love story? I've adored Olivia Colman for years, and she plays the role so well. Very crude, dark, but really well done.

I finally watched Hell or High Water and realized that my favorite movies are movies where cowboys have to make challenging choices, like Hell or High Water or Brokeback Mountain. The scenery, the human struggle? I love it.
I L O V E D Lady Bird. I related a little less to the mother/daughter relationship since my teen relationship with my mom was really different, but the yearning to leave your crappy town? Wow, that hit me.

Yay for finally seeing Guernsey Rosie! It was a great film 😊 I saw Ralph Breaks The Internet a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. I don't know if it's still showing, but if it is and you go see it, make sure you stay until the end of the credits! Hopefully seeing The Favourite in two days, which I'm looking forward to, because I've heard good things about it from a few people I trust.

I recently borrowed Loving Vincent from the library. Just thinking about how much work went into the animation for the movie is astounding.

I saw Midsommar in theaters. Talk about a disturbing movie. Well-acted and filmed, though.

I've been watching some old Hollywood films, my favourite Katharine Hepburn ones (Philadelphia Story, Bringing Up Baby), and discovering how much I like Ginger Rogers as an actress (Vivacious Lady was a lot of fun and all down to her).

Jingle Jangle is the first movie slated for the Advent Movies I do with friends! I'm really looking forward to it!
Also, my friends just saw Happiest Season and have added it to next year's Advent Movies list. I think The Guardian described it as "queer festive cheer". So I haven't seen it myself, but can tangentially recommend it?

I'm double posting because I have thoughts to convey!
I have recently seen Wonder Woman 1984 and A Call to Spy. I didn't like WW84 - I felt it made some dubious choices regarding certain settings and certain characters and I will be forever mad about how badly Barbara was treated by the script.
On the other hand, I loved A Call to Spy. It's based on the true stories of 3 women spies and spy handlers from Britain's Special Operations Executive in WWII. I thought it was a really well done film (acting, costumes, pacing) and I enjoyed googling the women later and learning more about their real stories (though the film was reasonably accurate).

Kypriotha I literally came here to post about WW84! Why can't DC seem to make a decent live action? They have animated movies and shows down to a fine art but they are so inconsistent with their live action. I won't say I didn't like WW84, it was okay. But it was just okay. Which made it even more disappointing really because the first WW movie was absolutely brilliant, so it's sad that the sequel was such a disappointment. The only other truly good DCEU movie has been Shazam!, and Aquaman was slightly above average, but still not the same quality as WW and Shazam!. I'm going to go console myself by watching Young Justice again.

I have been sick on and off lately, so I've been doing lots of comfort re-watches - all the Pitch Perfect films and Saved! have been the main ones. The Pitch Perfect sequels hold up better than I remembered - they're not as good as the first one, but they're fun.
I recently saw In The Heights at the cinema, and I enjoyed the story, even if the songs weren't as catchy as Hamilton. I haven't seen the stage show, but looking at the plot summary on Wikipedia made me think I'd like the movie plot more anyway. The timings seemed a bit more streamlined? And I like some of the changes to things like Nina's reason for leaving college and Sonny's story arc.

I went to see Venom: Let There Be Carnage with a group of friends earlier this week. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as I did the first Venom movie, but still had fun with it.

I watched tick, tick, BOOM! on Netflix and now I'm obsessed with it. I thought it was a beautifully well-done film and I loved all the intricacies of it being an adaptation of Jonathan Larson's semi-autobiographical rock monologue later turned musical, which itself deals with the development of Larson's earlier musical Superbia, whilst also foreshadowing RENT. Andrew Garfield was amazing as Larson, as were all the supporting actors, and seeing all the Broadway stars cameos was fun. Of course, it was sad too, as anyone who knows Larson's story will understand, but I thought it also dealt with the effect of HIV/AIDS crisis really sensitively. I think I'm mostly obsessed with the sheer artistic-ness of it.

I was in a romantic sort of mood the other night so I rewatched Pride & Prejudice (2005) and enjoyed that a lot. It's definitely a good adaptation and you can't really compare it to the 1995 BBC version because they're so different and the 2005 movie approaches the story in its own way.
The last movie I would have seen at the cinema would be Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which was fun.

Watched a few Christmas movies in the last couple of weeks. I feel like Christmas movies have a tendency to be a bit weak, but I highly recommend Single All the Way on Netflix. It's a very cute, very sweet story about best friends becoming boyfriends and I was absolutely here for it.

I made Lisa watch it concurrently with me and pestered her throughout with messages. It was so wholesome and I loved the big family vibe throughout.

The last movie I watched was Ghostbusters: Afterlife. (Borrowed from the library last week) I thought it was fun, (can't compare it to the 2016 movie though, because I haven't seen that one).

I watched Elvis last week, and honestly think its overrated. I feel like it glossed over a LOT of stuff, specifically the fact that Priscilla was 14 to Elvis' 20-something when they met. It really focused on the concept that Elvis was just a victim of his manager but at the same time wasn't really in depth about anything. Kudos to Austin Butler though, he did an amazing job.

I found Galaxy Quest available to watch free-with-ads on YouTube and watched it last night. Even though I haven't watched anything Star Trek proper in years, it was still enjoyable. I also received a copy of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish for my birthday earlier this month and watched that as well. I really liked it!
