Title: Blending In Rating: G Prompt: #25, Distraction Summary: Zahir needs a distraction. Again for Kat, and her super-addictive pairing
"Sir Zahir."
Zahir grimaced and straightened, having been leaning against the wall, with every intention of leaving this ball without having conversed with a single other participant. "Lady Knight," he answered, nodding curtly.
"I understand you have just returned from the desert?"
"If you've come to get me to dance-" he began, frustrated until he noticed the amused look on Keladry's face.
She shook her head. "There's a - discussion group in one of the side rooms; it's something we did back before the Scanran war. Lord Sir Raoul was talking about the Bazhir tribe he's affiliated with as I was leaving, and you happened to put me in mind of him again when I saw you trying to blend in with the wall."
Zahir nodded, his eyes dragged to the youngest princess, ostensibly all wrapped up in her partner. "Sounds like what I need."
Keladry smiled at him, and led him across the room. She listed other participants in the discussion, other topics, but Zahir made no effort to listen, even if he registered her particular attempt to be friendly. As he held the door open to slip out behind his fellow knight, he caught sight of Vania, broken free from the pretence of the dance, and staring straight at him.

"If you've come to get me to dance-" he began, frustrated until he noticed the amused look on Keladry's face. I had the most enormous giggle fit over that line This is lovely - I really feel for Zahir! There is something about him mooning over a princess he can't have that makes him super-likable, haha.

This is fantastic, I love how you've fit this scene into canon.

Ah, this is precious. Zahir is an interesting fellow to play with, and I'm glad you're having fun with it.

I can totally imagine Zahir doing a Raoul in the ballroom (yes, that's totally a thing). Soon, he'll have progressed to curtains I love how you blended the interaction with Kel in between his longing for Vania.

Actually, I agree with Kyp - can see Zahir with limited patience for the social activities of parties...good thing there's Vania, eh? I loved this!
