Title: Pain Rating: PG Words: 19 Prompt: Remembrance (#55) Summary: They both remember; Zahir comforts his new wife. Note: My new pet pairing.
She nestles in his arms, shivering slightly in the cold night air. It has been six months since she traded castle walls for open spaces, and she is still adjusting; not just to the temperature, but also the vulnerability that comes with freedom.
Zahir smooths her dark hair, kissing the top of her head. “It will get easier,” he says gently, and she can feel the rumble of his chest as his speaks. “The first anniversary is always the hardest.”
“I know,” she whispers, tilting her head up to gaze into his dark eyes. She feels tears slip down her cheeks, and lays her head back down on his chest. “I miss her so much; it is as if she… passed only yesterday.”
Zahir shifts so he can see her face. “There is no shame in mourning your mother,” he says, comforting her. “I wore a black band for mine for five years.” Without thinking, he rubs the upper arm where it used to be. “The important thing is to remember, but not stop living.”
As she leans across and blows out the candle, Vania knows he is right.

Aww, this is so sad and yet so sweet. Also, I adore the pairing.

Ahh, just this morning I was wondering what life would be if Thayet died... it's kind of tragic to think that she didn't see her daughter's marriage. Very sweet.

<3 this is such a lovely, tender moment between the two of them; I like that it's tinged with tragedy.
