Title: Assumptions
Rating: PG-13
Prompt: #38, News
Summary: Delia thinks she knows what's in store for her
Warning: Mentions of character death
When Delia has been caught and awaits trial, she thinks, At least it will be over soon. She is cramped, and so tired, and all of a sudden very aware that the cost of unsuccessful treason has been too high.
They leave her a lot of time to consider. Roger is nearly always at the forefront of her mind, and how this second death will probably be too much for him to overcome - and what, exactly, had he been up to during the coronation? He had been obsessed, much too obsessed with that Lioness, who consumed everyone in her path. Delia should have kept a closer eye on him.
But it is too late - too late for Roger, for the princess who shared her jewellery willingly, for the hot-tempered mage who was hungry for a challenge. Too late for the captain of her father's guard, who was always so fond of Delia.
She buries her face in her lap, hating Jonathan, loathing Alanna for forcing her hand. It wouldn't have taken much - just two small deaths two years ago, and the throne could have passed smoothly to Roger. Delia would have made a good queen - a beautiful one, at any rate - and her hands wouldn't be filthy red now.
At least it will be over soon. Delia knows Jonathan, knows he will want a clean break for the start of his reign, knows he won't leave her to suffer here long.
Delia leans her head back against the cold rock wall, and patiently awaits the inevitable news of her death.
