Title: Faint Heart Never Won Fair Lady Rating: G Word Count: 251 Card: Autumn Bingo: Forest + Brown + Rivalry + Red + Choice Summary: Maura arrives at the fort. A/N: I don’t quite like this – Kel seems a bit too casual/OOC.
It had been an exhausting week, and the prospect of having guests at New Hope hadn’t improved Merric’s temper. “I see you’ve changed your mind rather quickly,” Kel commented, coming up to stand beside him on the wall. His eyes were bright and there was even a hint of a smile tucked into the corner of his mouth. She followed his gaze, looking over the edge at the group of riders waiting below. One young woman in the party wore a bright red riding jacket. There were feathers in her brown hair, her chin round and stubborn-looking. “Ah,” said Kel, smiling. She leaned on the wall, nudged Merric with her arm. “Is there any particular reason for this sudden change in mood?” “You’re chirpy today,” he said, sidestepping her teasing. “Is there any particular reason for that?” Kel shrugged. “It’s been a while since we had guests. My lord Wyldon informed me in his last letter that the lady of Dunlath has some knowledge that may benefit our patrolling techniques.” They had visited Dunlath, once, during their training. The information hadn’t surprised her, though she had found the fact that Maura of Dunlath would be coming here herself to be more interesting “I’m in charge of patrols,” said Merric. “I’m in charge of New Hope.” Kel smiled as the other knight left the wall in a rush, no doubt to greet their new guests. Her gaze drifted back to the party waiting below. What was a bit of rivalry between friends?

I think this is adorable. Kel hints but doesn't outright say anything, which is great, and I get the impression that Merric is just a smidge oblivious. Fabulous fic!!
