Title: Where The Heart Is Rating: G Word Count: 159 Card: Autumn Bingo: Travel + Gold + Autumn + Brown + Leaves Summary: In the last few weeks their correspondence had withered away until no more letters came. A/N: Team Protector!
Dunlath looked different in the fall. Dried leaves crunched under the weight of Peachblossom’s hooves, a path of gold and brown and red that stretched out in front of her. Kel licked her cracked lips and gripped the reins tighter as she nudged Peachblossom onward, trying to reassure herself that the reception she would receive here would be a happy one. It had been months—almost a full year—since she had seen Maura. Letters weren’t quite enough, and in the last few weeks their correspondence had withered away until no more letters came. Kel had been unsure, then, and not brave enough to write first. She had avoided Neal’s prying, embarrassed that a grown knight couldn’t even bring herself to set pen to paper. But now she was here, and all her memories of Dunlath and the young woman who waited here came flooding back. The lake was still, the trees bare. Kel smiled, and closed the distance.
