Title: Afternoon with the Kiddies Rating: G Word Count: 228 Pairing: Jon/Zahir – Team Bend-a-lot Round/Fight: 1A Summary: Too many children, not enough patience.
Zahir hated watching the Conté children. The king had dubbed it a character strengthening exercise, though Zahir understood that it was a way for the king and queen to escape without the knowledge of their general staff. Now was supposedly Thayet’s “alone time” with her children, and the maids had been ordered away from the nursery. Several times Zahir had considered luring a girl to watch the babies for him, but ultimately decided each time to maintain his good standing with the king.
One of the babes tugged on Zahir’s shirt hem, and he nearly turned around and slapped him. It was one of the younger boys, but Zahir had no idea as to which one. Even after two years, Zahir hadn’t bothered to learn their names- they were all the same anyway: obnoxious, pretentious, and ignorant. Zahir smiled at the child as pleasantly as possible in his current state before returning to ignorance. The child began to yank harder and stomp on Zahir’s foot.
“What?” Zahir growled. The boy offered a handful of playing cards, but Zahir waved them away. “Go play with your brother”. The boy regained stomping on Zahir’s foot, but after quite some time, Zahir, who was now far beyond smiling, took the cards grudgingly.
As quietly as possible (for these hours were punishment enough), Zahir cursed Queen Thayet for having so many children.

Poor Zahir, relegated to baby-sitting... character-strengthening exercise, indeed.

Very character-strengthening. *straight-faced*
