Title: Focus Rating: PG-13 Word Count: 226 Pairing: Jon/Zahir – Team Bend-a-lot Round/Fight: 1A Summary: Zahir admires his king. WARNING: death.
:::
Zahir loved fighting alongside Jon more than anyone else he had ever met. The way Jon attacked and withdrew was breathtaking; his sword was a part of him. It was a way of releasing anger, hatred, revenge even, and turning the emotions that burned the brightest into an unavoidable force. Zahir wanted to reach over and ask– no beg– him to teach him how to fight like that.
But this was a true battle, and there was no time for such lessons. Perhaps someday, after four thick years, Zahir could compare to his king. Zahir mulled this over as he swung, a bit too wildly, and blood splattered across his face. He stepped over a body and nearly tripped, and as he caught himself he glanced at the dead below him. His stomach flipped at the coagulating blood on the soldier’s face. Zahir turned his gaze upwards; though the man’s face was fairly unidentifiable, the armor suggested the soldier was foreign.
Zahri stood straighter; this was no time for weakness of the mind or the stomach, he reminded himself, using the king’s steady tone. Stand tall, fight hard, and perhaps, he allowed himself this one weakness, perhaps he and King Jonathan could truly become an unstoppable force.
Enough silliness, he thought, catching a man in the leg with his blade. Focus.
Or he will never compare.

Nice one! I actually love the almost competitive edge to Zahir's admiration.
