Title: Mortal Griefs Rating: PG Word Count: 179 Pairing: Jon/Zahir – Team Bend-a-lot Round/Fight: 1/A Summary: The king must be fashionable. Author's Note: Throughout SMACKDOWN, I'll be posting pieces inspired by quotes and speeches from Shakespeare, because I'm a huge fangirl. They will be for no particular pairing, just whoever seems to fit (though they may be disproportionately J/Z). This series is based on a soliloquy from Henry V, for reasons which should become abundantly clear.
~~~~~~
What kind of god art thou, that suffer'st more Of mortal griefs than do thy worshippers?
“Do you know,” King Jonathan suddenly remarked, “that I have to know more about fashion than the Court ladies?”
Zahir snorted in disbelief. “Have to, or want to?” he retorted. “Having had to dress you, I think I can safely say your vanity knows no bounds—” He expertly ducked the boot Jon threw at him, his wicked grin never slipping.
“It's true,” his monarch insisted. “Every time a new trend is set, I'm informed, right alongside the spy reports and diplomatic writings. Because of course I must order my clothes changed immediately. It would never do for the king to seem unfashionable and out of touch.” He wrinkled his nose in derision. “I don't care what color of lace is suddenly untenable. My time could be better spent.”
Still laughing to himself, Zahir moved behind the chair his knight-master was sitting in, trailing a lazy hand up Jon's chest. He leaned down, breath stirring the smooth black hair by the king's neck.
“If it helps, you look positively dashing,” he whispered.
;D The idea that Jon is informed and 'advised' to change his clothes along with diplomatic reports is quite amusing.
Agreed And not to mention it brings the mental image of a series of reports explaining the sociological data behind the trends. Maybe Jon burns 'em and just tells the chatelain (sp) to get to it
