Title: Commander
Rating: G
Word count: 285 words
Pairing: Buri/Thayet - Team Girl Power
Round: 1/B
Summary: Commander: Buri is running away, and Thayet doesn’t know what to do.
-
“Buri,” Thayet said, firmly, hands on her hips. “Stop that.”
Buri glanced up at her. “I’m taking Group Askew,” she replied. “Terce let them get slack. I’m thinking of promoting his second – Larse. Has a good head on his shoulders, even if he fools around.”
“Buri – “
“I’m not firing Terce, if that’s what you mean,” Buri said tartly, making a face. “We lost too many last month. I was going to give Terce to Ghostwind, make him Vera’s problem.” It was a good solution. Vera was reliable, if a little too attached to regulations, and Terce would balance her out nicely.
“Are you promoting anyone to Larse’s second?” Thayet asked, silently resigned to the fact that this was the only discussion they were going to have for a long while.
Buri shook her head. “I’ll let Larse figure it out for himself,” she said. “If he’s group commander, he’d better start acting like one.”
Commander. And there it was, the elephant in the room. Former Commander Thayet jian Wilima and Commander Buriram Tourakom. They were all going their separate ways now, drifting further and further apart from the two girls who had fled Sarain after Kalasin’s death.
Thayet didn’t want it to happen. She didn’t know how to stop it.
What she knew: there was no talking to Buri now, not when she was determined to start fixing up the Riders, and not when…not when she didn’t know where to start. How to talk about it.
Instead, she took a step forward, and gave Buri a light hug, praying that Buri didn’t notice the way the words caught in her throat. But Buri would notice. She always did. “Don’t stay away for too long.”
