Title: Prison Break Rating: G Word count: 178 Pairing: Clary/Mattes Round/Fight: 4/A Summary: Mattes and Clary are assigned on a manhunt for escaped prisoners. Mattes is amused. Set in the DeadAlive universe, where Mattes and Clary are FBI agents. Based on an X-Files quote.
-
Two hours after a phone call, and a briefing, and Mattes and I are standing outside a gaping hole in a prison fence. I’ve called ahead of us, and so we don’t have to deal with any alarms or currents in the fence as Mattes probes the hole with a stick.
“Wire cutters,” he says, and I don’t question the flat certainty in his voice. We’ve passed that probing stage in our partnership, now.
“Smuggled?”
“Probably,” Mattes replies with a shrug. “That’s what always happens in prison movies, isn’t it?”
I bite back a sigh. Maybe we haven’t entirely passed the trying stage yet.
“According to the briefing,” I say, trying to move us on to more productive territory, “The prisoners escaped while hiding in a laundry cart. So they probably escaped through this point, after getting out of the cart. How did the guards miss a group of prisoners working on the fence with cutters? And what about the alarm systems?”
Deadpan, Mattes says, “I don’t think the guards have been watching enough prison movies.”
Very trying.
