“You're becoming quite the jouster.”
Raoul dismounted, armor clanking as his pulled off his helmet and shook out his sweat-soaked curls. He wiped his brow, knowing he left a streak of mud in his wake.
“Most of it's just luck,” he protested.
Sir Gareth of Naxen scoffed. “You just unseated one of the lead-bottomed conservatives. That takes skill, not luck.”
The larger knight chuckled, loosening his stallion's girth. “I think everyone with their family in the Book of Gold is required to have it implanted in their ass.”
“I take offense,” Gary protested, face perfectly smooth.
“You know it's true.”
“Well, perhaps.” A sly smile, then, the one that let Raoul know his teasing was appreciated. “Point being, I wanted to tell you I like the way you handle your lance.” Gary winked and strode briskly away, leaving Raoul blinking in his wake.
Maybe the other night hadn't been such a one-time thing after all.
