Title: Time Enough for Love
Series: Opening Lines
Rating: G
Word Count: 230
Pairing: Maura/Kel
Fight: 3/B
Summary: Maura has marriage on the mind. Based on the opening line from Pride & Prejudice.
Note: this one's dedicated to Rosie, who inspired the Opening Lines series, loves P&P more than anyone I know, and who had a copy of this fic from beta-ing it when I lost it.
“’It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife’,” Maura read, leaning over the back of Kel’s chair so she could see the text in the small book.
“Indeed,” Kel murmured.
“I suppose there’s truth in that. Same for a woman in possession of a good fortune, such as a wonderful estate with ties to the throne. Would you agree?”
“Mmm-hmm.”
“There’s all the begetting of heirs that’s needed, though I suppose it’s a little more difficult in our situation.”
“Mmm-hmm.”
Maura sighed, exasperated, and crossed to a sofa. “Are you even listening to me, Kel?”
Kel glanced up, finally. “I believe you were in the middle of some clever way to propose that we marry one another.”
“And all the excitement you can drum up is a murmured affirmation?”
“Yes.”
Maura fell back against the cushions dramatically. “I should have never lent you that book. You keep rereading it, and shut out the rest of the world when you do.”
“It’s your favorite,” Kel said simply. “Mine, too.” She stood and came over to Maura’s side. “Let’s read it together.”
They remained that way for some time, curled up together, quietly sharing their favorite passages. Maura knew that the conversation would continue at another time. There was all the time in the world left with Keladry.
