Title: Enigma Rating: G Word Count: 169 Pairing: Kel/Maura, Team Protector Round/Fight: 3/B Summary: her frankness throws Kel off.
“You were one of the better pages to come to Dunlath,” Maura said, approaching Kel after a particularly grueling joust. “I knew you were smart, but I didn’t get to see your skills.”
Kel shook out her hand; it was almost as sore as when she tilted with Raoul. “We worked out in the yards each day we were there, Lady Maura.”
The older girl smiled, her large brown eyes warm. “I don’t make a point of watching pages.”
“And you do make a point of watching squires?”
Maura shrugged. “Isn’t that what the Progress is about? To watch knights and squires test their skills while the king flaunts his armed forces to fiefs who might consider rebellion?”
Kel gulped at the girl’s frankness. “I thought it was about showing off Princess Shinkokami.”
Maura’s eyes crinkled with quiet mirth. “You’re Raoul’s squire. Certainly he’s taught you better than that.” With that she turned on her heel and wandered into the crowd, leaving Kel to direct her confusion at Peachblossom.

Maura's frankness makes me squeal a little here - I like how able she is to see through things.
