Title: King Rating: G Word Count: 135 words Pairing: Neal/Owen Round/Fight: 1/E Summary: Neal and Owen discuss the King
“Do you think he’ll be a good king?”
The question catches Owen by surprise. He chokes on his drink, and looks up at his friend. “What?”
“Do you think Roald will be a good king?” Neal repeats the question, watching Owen expectantly.
Owen hesitates. “Of course.” Feeling defensive he adds, “I would not have sworn fealty to him if I didn’t.”
Neal fidgets, swirling his drink. “I see.” His green eyes bore into Owen.
Owen can’t help himself. “Don’t you?”
Neal pauses, and Owen knows he is thinking back over the past two years. The war, the famine, the… deaths. Finally, he answers. “Time will tell.” Abruptly, Neal stands, placing his glass on the table with a thunk. “I should probably head to the Chapel,” he says, “it wouldn’t do for the Champion to be late.”

I want to know more about this little world with Neal, the reluctant Champion. I actually really like that he’s uncertain about Roald, and even more that he’s standing by him anyway. And as always, Owen, faithful, kind, supportive Owen…
And I like the comparison between them; that Owen couldn’t swear by a king he doesn’t believe in, despite being friends, and Neal swearing by Roald and being his Champion, despite worrying about his ability to rule.

I agree with Pandora, and I love the uncertainty here.
