Title: In Your Own Eyes Rating: G Word Count: 195 Prompt: Mirror, #26 Summary: Daine looks at herself in the mirror and wonders why she speak to animals.
---
Daine was thirteen years old when she left Snowsdale to make her way to…somewhere else. She did not have much of a destination in mind. Hopefully she would get a job with someone when she reached Cría, the capital of Galla. One night, she and Cloud stopped in a small clearing to sleep. She settled herself in front of a nice fire she had made. Then she opened her pack. She pulled out a flat object wrapped in cloth. She uncovered it to reveal a mirror. She looked at her reflection, with her blue-gray eyes and her untamable mousy brown hair. Cloud spoke to her then, Young one, you are not one to stare at your reflection for no reason. What troubles you? Daine continued to stare into her own eyes as she spoke, “Why can I hear you Cloud? And the wolves? And all the other animals? I know no one else could.” Because you are more like us than the two-leggers, Cloud told her. “But I look like a two-legger,” Daine protested. Cloud snorted. Look into your own eyes and find the truth, little one, Cloud said with a shake of her long mane.

I like how wise Cloud is, and it's an interesting contrast that she tells Daine to look more deeply at her human self to discover the part of her that understands animals.
