TV/Movies: Doctor Horrible, although that usually ends up putting me in an even worse mood.
Yes. I'm delighted to see another Doctor Horrible fan around these parts! Although, for me, it really depends. I usually walk away in a significantly improved mood, reveling in the cleverness and silly jokes (and the
Neil Patrick Harris and the
Nathan Fillion, acksquee), but there are plenty of times where I pick up on Billy's side of
Your Eyes and turn into angsty!Lanna.
Oh, yikes. I have so many. It all depends on what kind of comfort I'm seeking.
Movies/TVDVDs:Anastasia, Firefly, Doctor Horrible, Love Actually, Little Miss Sunshine, Dead Poets Society, The West Wing, Alias, Princess Bride, Amadeus, Mean Girls, V for Vendetta, Sweeney Todd, Little Shop of Horrors, Spirited Away, and Benny & Joon... Whatever I'm feeling at the time, but those probably are my most common selections.
Books:It's difficult to settle on anything, since most any book will do the trick. I also have too many to list. It's all very dependent on what sort of comfort I'm seeking. When I'm ill, I often go to old, familiar books that I've had since I was little. Things that are simple, youthful, and easy to fall into; something that reminds me of my childhood and lulls me back into a sense of calm simplicity. But when I am emotionally unwell, I seek complexity and depth. Often, I look for things that reflect my state back at me, taking solace in that connection; as stated above, fill-my-soul kind of works.
Food:[+] Tea. Oh, gods, the tea. I consume more of it than should be legal. Peppermint and Earl Grey are my biggest foul weather comforts, but I'll take whatever I can get my hands on, for the most part. I'm not a big fan of fruity teas. For me, tea ought to be warm and soothing, but not sweet (unless it is in chai form).
[+] Chocolate. Of course.
[+] WintOGreen Life Savers. I don't even know. Minty gum is also good.
[+] Pasta, specifically homemade macaroni and cheese (I've no tolerance for the premade stuff -- neither power nor velveeda counts as cheese in my book). Really, anything creamy or with pesto. In other words, the stuff that's most caloric, woe. Italian food is wonderful overall, including some of the lighter selections.
[+] Americanized Chinese food. Sweet and sour pork or egg drop soup,
yes.
[+] Really good chicken caesar salad. I've no idea why, but it is lovely.
[+] Egg salad sandwich, when the eggs are still warm. It probably sounds gross, but it is actually quite heavenly.
[+] Potato chowder, the way my mother makes it.
Music:Vienna Teng. She's on a level all her own. That said, Charlotte Martin isn't far behind. Apart from that, Billy Joel, Rilo Kiley, Sara Bareilles, Idina Menzel, Queen, Sarah McLachlan, Missy Higgins, Doctor Horrible (again), Rent, Bare, The Last 5 Years, I Love You Because, Little Shop of Horrors, Sweeney Todd, Tick Tick... BOOM!, and Aida. Essentially my usual suspects, except I gravitate towards the darker end of the spectrum when it comes to song selection.
