In which the request is actually made.
========================
The intensity is all a little too much to bear. With difficulty Kel clears her throat.
‘My lady needed something?’
‘Actually, I just…’ and suddenly Uline seems shy, her cheeks reddening to a deeper rose than usual, and her hand drops suddenly to the sash at her waist.
‘You know the custom?’ she says, unable to meet Kel’s eyes.
‘Oh.’
Which is just as well, because as much as she had been fixated upon Uline’s br – bodice before, Kel can suddenly only watch the delicate hourglass of Uline’s waist, cinched in by a russet sash.
‘I would like for you to have this, as a token,’ says Uline. ‘I will be in the stands cheering for you.’
‘Uline,’ Kel breathes, scarcely able to believe what is happening as Uline turns around, pulls the wave of her hair over her shoulder, inviting Kel to untie the strip of fabric, and for a moment Kel’s fingers brush against Uline’s body, through the silk, and she hears the older girl’s intake of breath.
Irrationally, it occurs to her that she wouldn’t need a pregnancy charm if she –
‘Squire Keladry?’ comes a voice, and the two girls turn, shocked to see Wyldon’s eyes upon them.
‘You will need your rest tonight,’
‘Yes milord…’ says Kel, bowing slightly. Turning reluctantly back to Uline, an I should go… reluctantly on her lips, she is startled to find another, infinitely softer pair against her own. Just as quickly the older girl steps away.
‘May the goddess be with you, Keladry,’ she murmurs, before stepping out into the crowd.
