“Did you see her tilt?” Liam looked across at the furnished tent at his brother.
“I’m not blind, Liam. I ran into Jesslaw and he said he’d armed her up for it.” Jasson sounded disinterested, more focused on reading the book in his lap.
“She trusted Jesslaw?”
“He’s not an imbecile. No matter how Goddess blessed jolly he is, and how much I complain about him, he is pretty decent.”
“She could have trusted Uncle Raoul.” Jasson put a finger on his page.
“Why are you so paranoid about her?”
“Liam’s got a crush.” Vania strolled in, drawling, before lounging in a chair and flicking her feet onto Jasson’s armrest. Liam spluttered, while Jasson chuckled.
“I just think that jousting against Stump she would have been more careful.”
“Grow up.”
“Do you even know what jousting is, Vani?” Liam glared at his sister.
“Yes, Liam. It’s the thing that makes you fly.” She smiled.
“Did you see her, then?” Jasson asked, reopening his book.
“Yes. And I thought she was quite enchanting.”
“Obviously I’m the only one in this family that’s not drooling over her. She was good, I’ll give her that, but she could be better.” Jasson’s voice was remnescient of Jonathan’s, a dismissive and bored drawl.
“She stays in the saddle after jousting with Uncle Raoul, Jass. You haven’t even tried that. And I’m not drooling over her.” Liam spoke firmly.
“Only salvitating, right?” Vania said, smiled wickedly.
“I’m not drooling either. She’s just … intriguing.”
