Title: Heeding Honor Rating: PG Length: 212 Character: Wyldon Summary: This time he heeds is honor; he might not be able to next time. Note: inspired by Incubus’s “I Miss You” and “If I Said I Loved You”, from The Pirate Queen.
It was with a heavy sigh that Wyldon realized her was in trouble. He’d been in love before, and he’d felt the confusion and torment of uncertainty in the face of his affection in the past. But the torment had never been quite like this because – even with all his life experience – the situation was entirely new to him.
“Keladry, stop,” he whispered, pushing her away from him gently. She looked up at him with an unguarded expression, questions in her eyes. “We can’t.”
She didn’t protest. She didn’t tell him all the reason they should listen to their hearts and act upon their attraction to one another. Stepping further away from him she simply murmured. “I’m sorry – that was out of line.”
“No,” he tried to ease her mind. “Out of line is the fact that I miss you when you’re not here. That I dream of you when I sleep, and you’re on my mind when I’m awake. That I’ve fallen in love with you.”
Somehow, even though she barely moved a muscle, he could see joy flood her expression. Her eyes lit up and her face flushed, and she stepped forward to kiss him – but he put her hands up to stop her.
“You’re my subordinate, Keladry. We can’t.”

This is so very *them*. I love that he tries to make her feel better about things, but then still says, "no, we can't."
