Title: The Measure of a Man Rating: G Prompt: #3 Same but different Category: 100 words Word Count: 100 Summary: Jonathan realizes the true value of his crown. -----
I am still the same man.
It was a mantra Jonathan had to repeat over and over, because he still wasn’t convinced. The fact of the matter was that he wasn’t the same man—the moment the crown was lifted from his brow, he was changed, naked, shrunken.
I am still the same man.
Now, bowing low before his son and king, murmuring the binding words of fealty, Jonathan realized how much the crown meant to him—representing all that he had lost to gain what he had.
Once one was a king, one could never be just a man.

Oooh, this is really interesting. It really gives you something to ponder- how attached was Jon to the crown?

Very interesting. At first I thought it was Jon's reaction to becoming king, but I really like where you went with this.

Ooh, this is fascinating! He hasn't been king his whole life, but he was groomed for it his whole life...it's interesting to think about why he'd pass the crown on to Roald while he's still alive.

I love how Jon needs to try to convince himself he's the same without the crown... insinuating that he really believes otherwise. This totally plays on my perception (I'm not sure if anyone else feels this way) that Jon's personality changed between SotL and PotS; Kingship did alter him. It would be an awfully difficult transition for Jon, having been Crown Prince and then King his whole life. Loved this!

It's very believeable for the character, the kingdom is his life. Well done.

the moment the crown was lifted from his brow, he was changed, naked, shrunken.I find this concept both opposing and yet harmonious to the way you drew the drabble to an end. There was a great feeling of humanity in this, of vulnerability and yet also of understanding for Jon and his place in the world. I love this.
