“So have you decided yet?” Kel turned around, startled, but breathed a sigh of relief. It was only Wyldon, who offered a rare smile. “Did I scare you?” he asked slyly.
“I thought I was alone. How did you find me?”
Wyldon sat next to Kel. “You always come here to think. But you still haven’t answered my question.”
Kel sighed. Ever since Wyldon has become her closest confidant he had been pestering her to choose between her lover and her husband. “I don’t want to break Dom’s heart,” she began, “We’ve been married for so many years. We were so happy together.”
“But...” Wyldon prodded.
“But there’s nothing between us. It’s nothing like what I have with Neal. Yes, they’re cousins, but they’re so different. Dom’s so irritating these days, but Neal’s just as charming as he was when we were pages. It’s all so confusing.” She buried her face in her hands, but Wyldon pulled her wrists away.
“This can’t last forever, you realize,” he said seriously, his eyes piercing deep into hers.
“I know,” she said quietly.
“Just pick with your heart. It will never lead you astray.” Wyldon’s comment was met with silence, and the two sat motionless for quite some time.
“I-I think I’ve decided,” Kel murmured.
Wyldon turned to face her, taking her hands in his. “And?”
Kel’s eyes, now filled with a passionate fire, gazed deep into his. “And I’ve chosen you,” she said, leaning forward to press her lips against his.
