Title: Twinned Rating: G Prompt: Same but different Category: 250 words Word count: 160 Summary: Nia and Jory through the ages. *** When they were born, they looked exactly the same. Two squalling, howling babies, born just a little too early. When they were little, they looked exactly the same. Two four-year-old children, pretty, smiling little things with their curly hair in tight braids and their smooth brown skin covered by woolly caps and jackets against the Namorn winter. When Daja and Frostpine arrived, in a clatter of smoky, impassive breath and plaintive comments on the weather, they weren’t exactly the same any more. Nia was slightly shorter; Jory’s mouth slightly wider. When Daja and Frostpine left, these fissures of difference widened into rifts: the burn on Jory’s finger despite her cook’s hands, Nia’s downcast eyes, longer eyelashes. When Nia’s husband drowned in a boat she built, Jory stormed up from her kitchens, and sat on her sister’s bed, and cupped her twin’s face in her hands, and the pain in Nia’s eyes seeped into Jory’s: and they were exactly alike again.

Beautiful writing - so many emotions, and you've made me remember all that I love about Emelan.

This is gorgeous. I adore that it's Nia and Jory, because out of all of the students there is so little written about them, and you capture their relationship beautifully.

This is very poignant. I love the exploration of their relationship and how they change over time.
