Title: Pawn Rating: G Prompt: #3 Same but different Category: 100 words Word count: 100 words Summary: Before tonight, he had thought the boy was a pawn. - - - He held the pawn in his hand, turning it over in his long fingers. Before tonight, he had thought the boy was a pawn; a Gifted, athletic pawn, but a pawn nonetheless. Tonight’s fight had shown him differently. It wasn’t the skill that unsettled him, but the glint in the squire’s eyes when he had bested the knight. He realised there was something not quite right about the boy. Something dangerous and – dare he say it - deranged. Duke Gareth of Naxen sank back into his chair, thinking hard. Perhaps Roger of Conte wasn’t the weapon he wanted, after all.

This is such an awesome flipped concept. I adore it, how it works in a (dark?) mirror of canon.

I absolutely love this one! I love the twisting of canon, and the notion that Roger's not-quite-normal-ness was obvious even when he was young, and Duke G. being the one to notice it.

This is awesome! It's such a fascinating look in a rather minor character, and I love how eerily perfect it fits into canon.
