Title: Looks the Other Way Rating: PG Prompt: Switch Category: 250 Words. Word Count: 250 Words. Summary: GDT Entry. The Wildmage looks the other way.
The first time the young Wildmage looks the other way, the greatest sorcerer in the Eastern Lands pretends not to notice.
The second time it happens, at a court ball, she tells herself she’s being a hypocrite. Thayet’s court ladies do look astonishingly beautiful, far more than what she does, and she can’t pretend that she didn’t look the other way in Carthak. The insistent voice that sounds like Kitten tells her that they weren;t in a relationship then. It’s still an excuse she’ll happily use.
The third time it happens, and Numair goes and actually talks to the pretty young blonde, she blocks the door to their chambers and refuses him entrance.
Alanna, accompanied by Thayet, blasts her way into her chambers the next morning. She’s as angry about their intrusion as she is about her sleep being disturbed. It doesn’t help that she is also ashamed about the tear tracks and puffy eyes on her face that are so obvious, and the fact that she cried for most of the night. She cries onto Thayet’s shoulder as Alanna plays with Kitten.
It’s a comfort to see that Numair looks like he had as little sleep as she did. It’s more of a comfort when he tells her that the lady reminded him of people in Snowsdale. She’s amused when he says that the lady asked whether Daine enchanted him. He says that it’s nonsense. Verlidaine Salmalin already had his heart. He just had to find her.
He’s forgiven.

Wow... I like the complexity, that Numair is being both demonized and forgiven within the same piece. Very well written!

Very interesting, I love how you kept within a grey area rather then veiwing it as a black and white issue.
