Blue and ice on the rippling surface of colorless sea that separates, in her eyes, and the eyes of the boy next too her,

Young but old enough to understand, and to be noble, and to do what they must; all of this is in Roald's young face, and Thayet cries unconsoled, because all is slipping through her fingers, and she wonders in this moment of glass-clarity when they ever grew up.
