Important Reports
Summary: Kel has important reports that Wyldon must see. Neal suspects something.
Rating: R
______
Back in Corus at last, Lord Wyldon of Cavall sought out his wife immediately, finding her in the company of her best friend, Neal, chatting.
Neal saw his approach and gave a long-suffering sigh. Kel turned around and greeted her husband with a warm smile and a quick squeeze of his hands; he replied in kind, raking his eyes over her form.
“I am fine, thank you for asking,” Neal said obnoxiously.
Kel rolled her eyes while Wyldon ignored him.
“I am glad you have returned, my lord, I have some important reports for you to look over in my office,” said Kel.
“Is that right?” he asked, eyebrow raised.
“Oh yes, they are quite fascinating; I’m sure you will agree.”
“I have no doubt of it, and I’m rather eager to peruse them.”
Kel took his hand and led him away, ignoring Neal’s dramatic interpretation of being choked.
Out of morbid curiosity and for future blackmailing purposes, Neal casually walked by Kel’s office a few minutes later, pre-cringing at the expected sounds, but instead of hearing hushed voices and creaking, he heard instead the faint scratching of quills.
He peeked unashamedly though the keyhole only to see the two of them working contentedly across from each other, the only sign of their affection their clasped left hands on the table.
Neal strode away, muttering to himself about Tortall’s oddest couple.
***
In the office, the two bodies groaned and were still. Wyldon tenderly moved aside a piece of her sweaty hair and Kel kissed a bead of sweat from his forehead. She didn’t move from his lap but laid her head on his shoulder, sighing contentedly. He pressed his lips to her hair and wrapped his arms around his wife.
“I have never been gladder that we purchased that charm,” Kel murmured, voice slightly slurred.
Wyldon chuckled, eyes glancing to the little figurine on the desk that glittered in the lamplight, and clutched her to himself more securely.
