Title: Lonely Rating: PG13 Prompt:Two of a Kind, #9 Summary: During the Scanran war, post-LK. Dom makes an unusual proposal.
Kel knows all along that it's not a relationship. Dom said so right out. She'd brought him back to her room, with the intent of giving him some bruise balm, when he suggested it.
"Kel," He'd said, shivering as she began to apply the ointment, "I'm lonely."
She'd actually snorted at first, hoping to discourage him from where he seemed to be going.
"I know this is way out of line, but I'm going to ask--"
She cut him off. "No. It's the wilderness talking. Your tastes run to court flowers, Dom."
"Yes." He admitted. "If I were talking about the long run, that would matter. I'm talking about now. About this war. About tonight."
Kel leaned toward him, wrapping her arms around him experimentally. "You're not deluding yourself into love, are you?" She liked the feel of it, even though she knew she was a stand-in.
"Gods, no!" Dom laughed. His laugh shook her chest, and she smiled. "Don't get me wrong," he backtracked, "You're a lot that I've always wanted, but not what I'd choose in bed. But I'm alone, and you're alone, and I think that means it's worth trying."
She murmured her assent.
Now, in the early light, she blinks, bleary-eyed, and notes with pleasure that Dom has already left. Good. She thinks. He meant it.

This is exactly how I feel any kind of real Kel/Dom should and would be - they're just not relationship material to me. Nothing serious, no broken hearts, but they don't regret it, either. Lovely! (:

This is great! It feels much more realistic for them than hearts-and-flowers fluff.

Realistically, yet sweetly, portrayed. Great piece!
