Title: Accustomed
Rating: G
Prompt: #3, addiction
Words: 237 words
Summary: And he thinks even a former priest of Mithros could grow accustomed to this life.
-
He considers the splendor of the Imperial Palace around him. Suddenly, the three heirs before him had vanished, all dead in various ways. Mehut Kazhar Khebrilnhat, Varashn Ezzar Khebrilnhat, and Ibraih Yussift Khebrilnhat- all gone.
He had never been in the line of succession before, or at least too far down for them to care. That was why he had studied in the University, served his compulsory Legion term, and then became a priest of Mithros- although he worshipped the Graveyard Hag as well.
After all, one should always pay respect to patron gods.
But here, in the Imperial Palace, among the glittering finery and jewellery, and most importantly, his own workshop where he can do just about whatever he wants and remain undisturbed by the world as he ponders the mysteries of his Gift…
Where he has all the materials he needs, and every book he could possibly want to become one of the better mages- where he can finally do something, and offer Arram a job, so his friend doesn’t have to just about live from day to day…
As Ozorne snaps his fingers and the expensive crystal-globed magelights in his workroom comes to light, he marvels, as always. It is such a small exercise of his Gift, and yet the ultimate reminder of his new status, his new power.
And he thinks even a former priest of Mithros could grow accustomed to this life.
-
Here, addiction as a process, rather than as a final determinate value judgement.
