Title: Healing
Rating: PG
Prompt: Healing
Summary: Dom gets a healing. Kel tries to give him some advice.
“You really should keep still. It would make his job a lot easier.”
“Sorry Kel, but not all of us have the iron self-control that you have.” Dom’s face contorted due to what Kel guessed was a rib popping back into place.
Neal growled at his cousin. “Well, you could try and develop one for a moment. Babies squirm less than you.”
“It’s not like I fell on my own—ow!” Dom jumped as a something in his chest cracked its way back into place.
“Curse you, what did I just say? Keep still!”
Kel crossed her arms over her chest with a straight-face. “You had it coming. You should know not to go bothering Hillurd when he’s had too much liquor.”
“Well, I honestly didn’t think he’d tackle me into a table. I only patted the big lug on the back.” Dom shifted on the edge of the cot as Neal began working on the other side of his broken chest. “Do you know what it’s like when a two hundred and fifty pound man just rams you into a table? Then that table collapses while said giant is still on top of you?”
“He’s a sensitive lug. You know he’ll apologize to you up and down once he’s sober.”
Dom sighed. “I know, I know. He’s good fellow. But it still—!” He hissed in pain, fighting not to rise from his position, as something crackled together.
Neal scowled as he once again readjusted his focus. “Mithros witness, if I pop a rib into your stomach it is not my fault.”
He’s so squirmy. Kel cracked a smile. Who knew?
Dom frowned at her. “I see that smile. This isn’t funny.”
“I’m not laughing.”
“No, but you’re amused.”
“You move around a lot.” Kel told him with a shrug. “My mother cracked us on the head with her fan when we fought a healing. I would have a splitting headache if I’d moved as much as you do.”
Kel observed the damage as Neal finished the job. A splotch was appearing on his left side where his rib curved down.
Another one was forming under his collarbone where Hillurd’s elbow had probably landed. Both of them were turning purple-black and she guessed he had more on his back. He was going to have some hefty bruises in the morning.
“It’s not polite to stare Kel.” Dom winked at her.
Raising her brows, Kel snorted. “Forgive me, you just look so colorful.”
“Believe me. I can feel the color.” He groaned.
With a final pop and crack, Neal’s hands stopped glowing and the lanky young man straightened himself up. He stood up and pointed towards the door. “There. I’m done.”
“Finally.” Dom stood up, twisting his torso to stretch. “Thanks.”
“Just don’t let it happen again.” Neal warned. “Because you are a terrible patient.”
After thanking Neal and leaving the infirmary, Kel walked with Dom down the quiet streets of New Hope. They walked in comfortable silence until they had to part ways.
“By the way, thanks for grabbing Hillurd off me.” Dom grinned sheepishly.
Kel waved a dismissal. “I couldn’t just very well leave him on you. He was crushing you. You looked like a fish out of water the way you were gaping.”
He laughed. “I scared you for a minute there didn’t I?”
“I was just horrified that you broke a table is all.” Kel teased. “The innkeeper’s going to have quite a lot to say to me later about how hard it is to get sturdy tables to be made.”
“I’m sorry for the mess. I’ll pay for the damages.”
Kel shook her head. “No need. I’m already having it taken care of.”
“Are you sure?” He asked.
“Positive. Well, I’m off. I still have a little paperwork to do before bed. Good night, Dom.”
“Night, Kel.” He saluted her as they parted ways. “Sweet dreams.”
