Title: this rocky ground Rating: PG Warnings: Death, and Mastiff spoilers. Prompt: #77 there and back again Summary: Beka knows when enough is enough.
There is no shouting at the graveside, only sorrow. She can hardly feel the friends at her back.
She hated Holborn for being brash and foolhardy, but she hates Farmer for knowing exactly what awaited him, and for choosing that path anyway. And she knows she would have done the same.
The babe gives a kick. She presses a hand to her belly, blinking back tears. She has another duty now.
The next time she comes here—and she swears it to herself, fiercely—it will be no one else’s funeral but her own.

Oh, no. I really liked the links between the characters and her life, here. Her fierceness, the mention of the baby, and the promise to herself were all great additions for her character, although they hurt my heart a LOT.

I agree with Kris, this is both beautiful and painful.
