Sorry, I couldn't find a board to discuss upcoming works in. Is it okay I put this here?Does anyone have any news about the upcoming book Battle Magic? Like a release date? Amazon says the release date is April 1st 2013 Boo. I was really hoping this book would be out in time for Christmas! Anyways... I am so excited for this book! I absolutely adore Briar and Rosethorn and I feel like Pierce teased us in the last two Emelan books (nyah nyah, you don't know what happened! ). I found this tentative cover. And Goodreads has this to say! On their way to the first Circle temple in Gyongxi, mages Briar, Rosethorn, and Evvy pay a visit to the emperor's summer palace. Although treated like royalty when they first arrive, the mages soon discover that the emperor plans to invade Gyongxi, posing a fatal threat to the home temple of the Living Circle religion. Accompanied by one of the emperor's prize captives, the three mages rush to Gyongxi to warn its citizens of the impending attack. With the imperials hot on their trail, Briar, Rosethorn, and Evvy must quickly help the country prepare for battle. But even with the help of new allies, will their combined forces be enough to fight the imperial army and win the war?
Anyone have anything to add? Oh oh! I found Tammy doing a reading from Battle Magic! The video is flipped on it's side :/ Anyone talented with video editing?

I recently visited Dymocks, and on the shelves with the other Tammy books it said 'Battle Magic: due to be released Feb 2013'. Australian Tammy releases have also been delayed in comparison to US releases too - Mastiff had a couple of months, and I think T&OL was a week or so off, so I'm apprehensively hoping that it's February. Although now that I look on BookDepository, that also says 1 April 2013, but in hardback. I thought it was Gyongxe? I'm wondering if the prize captive is Luvo, but then surely if he was a prize captive, the Emperor's army would still be chasing after them... It doesn't sound like things are going to go down the exact way I expected them to, because I had had the impression it was more of an evacuation rather than a stand and fight, because we heard a lot about the power of the imperial army and it sounded more like a 'if you don't get out of the way, we'll run you over' sort of thing. I'm really, really hoping that Battle Magic fits in, with the timeline and events, the aftermath, the PTSD/memories and doesn't joss anything, because it will really annoy me if it does. I'm hoping that it will be as dark and as gritty as it was implied to have been in WOTE and Melting Stones. As an overall thing, I'm looking forward as to how their interactions have changed since Street Magic too, because I liked how their personalities had the potential for conflict.

Ooh, the cover looks pretty cool!
I was hoping we'd get Battle Magic sooner than that too, but I guess April isn't too bad.
I thought it was Gyongxe too. I hope Tammy hasn't done another Fransten/Franzen.
I'm also really really hoping that it fits in with everything we've seen so far, especially Briar's PTSD. As much as I would like to know what happened, I also quike like the way Tammy handled it in WotE and if it doesn't mesh with that, I'll be very disappointed.

I got to read another excerpt today! I was in Chapters (which is Canada's Big Book Store) and when I searched Battle Magic on the computers there it came up "Read and Excerpt" so I clicked on it, not hopeful that it would produce anything, and I got to read a whole battle scene with Briar!!! I'm trying to find the same option on the website to no avail, I'll try and see if there is anything I can do to get the excerpt up here!

I third all the hoping that this book meshes with what we've already been told/shown. I also hope it doesn't turn into Briar, Rosethorn, and Evvy taking on the whole Imperial army and winning the entire war single-handedly.
That said, I am excited for this book.

I amazon searched this, and it actually came up. This surprised me, as last I heard, Tammy didn't have an English publisher at the moment??

You pretty much summed up my fears right here :/ I felt so let down after Mastiff and I wasn't impressed with Melting Stones either, if this turns out to be a disappointment I will be very discouraged. However, I am trying to stay positive by getting myself stoked up for April 1st!

That would suck But then in Tris's Book and Briar's Book and even the end of Daja's Book, they had plenty of help. It was only WotE where they basically took on the empress and her freakin' chief mage and won. I hope it doesn't even end with them being present for the winning of the war. The way WotE made it sound, they were just pawns.

...In my impression they didn't even win the war. The temple got destroyed and I kinda thought the Emperor won.... But it does sound dark. I'm from NZ and I didn't even realise it had a title!!! YAYYYY for new Tammy books!!!

yeah, according to bookworld.com.au (which is what Borders turned into online here in Australia) its set for April 1st.
I'm pretty keen for this book, I love Briar and Rosethorn and hope that this one is better than Melting Stones, which I thought was kind of 'meh'. It sounds good though.
I don't think she'll have them winning the war all on their own, its not usually how she operates, and I don't think that this is really comparable to what happened in WoTE. That was a political battle rather than a physical war. That was about Sandry having to outwit her cousin so that she wasn't dancing to her tune, or to anybody else's for that matter, like Shan's. And it wasn't really surprising that they defeated Quen and Isha, they are more powerful and was four against two (sometimes one). I don't the two situations can really be compared.

My impression from Briar's story in WotE was that they didn't even try to fight the war - they had just tried to warn the Temple (I can't remember what it's called, but it's the first one of the Living Circle temples) and then they got caught up in the war. I always thought they just fought for the Temple and their lives - not the sides in the war.

Too soon to start a countdown? ;D

Nooooooo!!! I just looked through BookDepository, and then double checked on Amazon, and the release date has been pushed back to 1 October 2013! So disappointed Amazon also has a new cover here, and I'm thinking that is the final one. I like it a bit better then the other one, but there's something a bit too Tortall/Lioness Rampant about it.

I was coming here to share the disappointing news Tammy just mentioned it on Facebook and according to that the final cover art is still under construction (needs more thorns) and Fall 2013 now sounds like the earliest it will be released. I tried to do a screen cap, but I an't find Paint on Windows 8.

Oh, that's too bad! BUT it means those of us who will be getting it released in October can add it to our Christmas lists! I like the cover... I didn't when I first looked at it, but I like that it is different than the others. Although, the covers get so many changes and reprints here, that I am sure there will be choices by the time I go to buy it. ;D

I can barely read HitV because it's so bleak. I have a feeling BM's going to be a tearjerker for me.

We will start a support group for it, Mistrali! I will probably need it, too!

A support group sounds like a great idea for BM! Can we start it now to deal with the disappointment of the later release date?

A question for those who have read the excerpt: how is it written? 3rd person limited (like CoM and CO) or 1st person (like Melting Stones)?

I'm glad it's third person, too. My geography's a bit off - I thought it was Yanjing? Or is Gyongxi/Gyongxi situated in Yanjing or vice versa? I can't wait to find out what the emperor's like. I love that he has a summer palace.

I love that he has a summer palace. From the blurb above, the Yanjingyi emperor was invading Gyongxi, hence the brutal war. So for him to invade it means that it's not tehnically part of Yanjing.
