Title: Kiss My Dust
Rating: G
Prompt: Memory camps
Summary: Kyprioth and Dove during a moment of battle in the Copper Isles.
Kyprioth
Today I claim what is rightfully mine – what my brother and sister took from me all those years ago. My precious Isles, my precious, precious Isles... too long have I lapped at your shores, flown over the islands, admiring your beauty from afar; wishing, waiting, hoping that the day of the prophecy was coming, was here.
A girl; half raka, half luarin, she flies in the sky on the back of a kudarung, beautiful, graceful, all I could wish for in a ruler and more. She will keep the Isles in order; Aly, especially, will make sure of that.
As I battle, fighting off the orange rays of my brother and the white veils of my sister, my crackling sparks bright, big and lively, dancing around them mockingly, cackling in the way a trickster does when they know they are pulling off the biggest tricks of their lives.
I am here, dear brother and sister, here for my throne, and, whether you like it or not, I am here to stay. And while you’re at it, kiss my dust.
Dove
This has to be one of the scariest things that I have ever done, but I have to do this. I can feel Secret quivering beneath me with excitement; its almost purr is somewhat soothing and takes the edge off my nerves.
I want to hug the kudarung’s neck so I don’t fall from him, but he whickers and I know he’s trying to tell me that everything is going to be okay. Coming into this, I knew there was going to be a price to pay for everything that we’ve done and I hope, oh I hope, that these victories are helping Kyprioth.
“Don’t be scared, Dove, you won’t fall,” Secret says, tightening itself around my neck in a darking-kind-of-hug.
“I’m not,” I whisper softly to Secret, but mostly to myself, “I’m not scared of it at all.”
Everyone else is convinced that I’m going to be the queen that they’ve all been hoping for, but I only hope that I can be. I hope I don’t disappoint them.
They have faith in me, and I need to have faith in myself. As the kudarung circles the city, I relay reports to Aly through Secret and Trick.
And as the miniature kudarung follow us around in the sky, whickering to the large kudarung I’m riding, Kyprioth’s sparks explode around me like fireworks.
