Title: Seeing Her Rating: G Prompt: #23 Dream Words: 120 Summary: He sees her differently.
He sees her differently.
People look at her and behold the sword in her hand and the shield upon her arm. They stop and stare; some in awe, others in respect, the rest in dismay. Then there is Gary and Raoul, who catch sight of her familiar copper hair and that petulant scowl that usually dominates her face. They stop and talk – with her – to whine or dine (what’s the difference, really?), and maybe sometimes to mourn. And unlike George, who meets her violet eyes in the morning and falls in love all over again, Jonathan doesn’t see a lover to stop and grin at.
But he stops, anyway, and dreams. Because when he looks at Alanna, he sees Tortall.

Wow, this is really great! I love how you show all the different dynamics in here, like the friendship with Gary and Raoul, and George waking up and falling in love all over again every morning (*squee* ), and the look at Jon's view of Alanna is amazing, and really accurate, I think. Because Alanna really is his sword arm, and she's his representation to the people most of the time, and she's the one of them that's out there fighting for the country in his name and risking her life. Er yeah, I think that got rambly, so Summary: I love it!

This is so full of pretty! That last line was just gorgeous - it's wistful and proud and nostalgic and hopeful all at once, and I adore that to Jonathan, Alanna represents so much of what Tortall is.

The contrast between Gary and Raoul, George, and Jon is beautiful and spot on.
