Title: Healing Rating: G Prompt: #42 A Fresh Start Word Count: 182 Summary (and any Warnings): A mother always knows what's best. Set after WotE.
Crane drummed his fingers on the table, buying time to think. The expression on her face was a familiar one: no backing down. Not this time.
"What made you think that I would agree to this?" he asked Rosethorn.
"This is more important than some ridiculous feud, Crane. He's still having the nightmares. What he needs is something to occupy his mind. He needs work."
"And I suppose there is a completely logical reason why you can't do this yourself."
"Of course."
He would have been a fool to expect more of an explanation than that. "I'm not going to coddle the boy just because he's been in a war. I need people who can work, not -"
"If I wanted someone to coddle him, I'd leave him with his sisters," said Rosethorn tartly. "I don't want you to do anything, Crane, just make sure he's busy. Surely even someone as incompetent as you can arrange that."
Crane sniffed and looked down his nose at her. "Charming."
"I try," she said, smiling. "So, will you do it?"
"Do I have a choice?"
