Title: Onion Soup Rating: G Prompt: #4, food Word Count: 100 Summary: Food is one way to a man's heart -- especially when the man is a former street kid.
Food is the way to Briar’s heart. It’s simple, old-fashioned, but true. It’s the reason he’s bedded so many cooks and kitchen maids – well, one reason.
So when he woke in a Namornese hospital, to a girl bearing a steaming tray, he fell instantly in love.
The soup was rich and brown, floating strong white cheese and toasted bread. He tasted beef, thyme, and a sweetness he couldn’t place. “Whaisit?” he mumbled, mouth full.
Jory grinned. “Capchen onion.”
Briar stared. “Onion? You do this with plain old onion? That’s magic!”
Then he found out she really was a mage.

I really liked this. It was a warm and lovely look at Briar. I hate onion soup, but the way you described it made it sound delicious! Maybe it's because it's magic soup.

Aww, thanks! And he's totally going to grow some out-of-season fruit to try to impress her... it could work. (btw, it's French onion soup, which is a whole other thing and doesn't really taste that much like onions. But there is no France in the Emelanverse.)
