Title: Beneficence Rating: PG Prompt: #72 - All in a Day's Work Summary: Henna heals. WARNING: Implied character death.
“Nonmaleficence is not the same as beneficence,” Henna told herself as she looked down at the sick novices trying to decide whether or not she could save them. It was something that had been drilled into their heads during healer training. There was a right and a wrong. Doing good did not always equate to not doing evil. It was something that she had always struggled with. She always wanted to help. Healers healed. They made things better. She knew her magic was running low, but wouldn’t the world be a better place if these two young men were still in it.
Henna rechecked her magical core. It was low, but there was just enough. She could heal these men, and they would live. This would be a good day’s work, and perhaps when people remarked upon her legacy they would think that she had done good.

Oh, this is wonderful. I love her internal struggle, and the rationale for what she does. Great response to the prompt! ♥

Oh, Henna is not written about enough. The distinction she makes between actively doing good and not doing evil is powerful.

I thought this was lovely! Definitely a character that needs to be written about more, and I agreed with mistrali and Isha's points on the story, but what hit me was the foreshadowing of it, and how you managed to make it so dramatic while its such a quiet moment, and a simple enough choice.
