Title: Awkward Assignations
Rating: G
Prompt: #62 - That Awkward Moment
Summary: That awkward moment when you walk in on your liege lord and king having an unexpected conference…with a couple of extra awkward moments thrown in as a bonus and a special guest appearance.
Dedicated to Rosie, who was kind enough to let me borrow her famous creation, Lord Theodore, for this response ♥ Please give him my apologies for the slanders against him - it was Gary and Raoul, not me!

“I’m just saying, if you actually left the curtains and tried socialising, that you might find you enjoyed parties!”
“Until you and Jon start letting me bring my sword so I can use it to get out of awkward conversations, that’s just not going to happen.”
Gary and Raoul were on their way to another one of the endless meetings Jon insisted they attend as two of his closest advisors. Raoul thought the meetings were a waste of time that could be better spent training with the Own and Gary thought they were Jon’s cunning way of getting out of doing any work himself, but both of them went. Mostly without complaint.
On this particular day, they had fallen into one of their longstanding arguments. Midwinter was approaching and Raoul was once again trying to get out of attending any of the parties.
“You can’t skewer people just because you don’t like their conversational skills!” Gary was so shocked he almost dropped his stack of paperwork.
“I’m not going to stick people with my sword at royal parties! What kind of Knight do you take me for? I’ll just, you know, wave it around a bit and look impressive and they’ll all leave me alone!”
Gary sighed in exasperation. “There are other ways to solve disputes then just shows of force, you know. But never mind it now, I think this is the room. We’re a bit early, but we may as well go in and sit down. This stack of documents makes my arms feel like they’re about to drop off.”
Raoul started opening the door, before shutting it suddenly and stepping backwards. Gary swore as Raoul stood on his foot.
“What did you do that for?!? You almost broke my foot!”
“Shhh!” Raoul indicated the door with his head and tried to speak without moving his lips. “Have a look in there – quietly though!”
Curious, Gary peered through the thin sliver of door Raoul opened for him. His eyes widened and he stepped back hurriedly, Raoul quietly closing the door again.
“The nerve of him!” Gary exclaimed. “Telling us that our advice is very important to him and then consulting all sorts of unsavoury characters behind our backs!”
“We should get him back,” Raoul said, an idea beginning to take shape. “Think of everything he’s made us miss to come to his stupid meetings. Well, today we should miss his meeting! We can go riding or something instead. That’ll teach him to try and replace us with a substandard stuffed simpleton.”
Gary’s face lit up. “Raoul, for once in your life you’ve actually hit upon a brilliant idea! Let me just dump this paperwork here and we’ll go!”
And that was how Gary and Raoul ended up strolling arm in arm down the corridor away from the meeting room, passing the Lord Magistrate on the way. It gave them endless delight to imagine Jon’s shock and discomfort at being interrupted in his private meeting with Lord Theodore after they told his Honour that the meeting had already started and he had better go right in.
