Title: Her Children
Rating: G
Prompt: # 47 - Forbidden, #57 - In His Image, #58 - More Trouble Than You're Worth
Summary: Alanna loves her children. It goes 57, 47, 48.
Alanna loved all her children. Of course, she did. She may not have been the traditional mother. She was often away, but she always hoped there was no question as to her feelings.
***
Thom was her first born, arriving in the field. His presence in her life was a blessing as well as a curse, a constant reminder of the brother she had lost so young, too young. She knew her son was Gifted when he was very young, but sometimes as the power in him grew as it became obvious he would follow in her brother’s path, there were times she would look at him and see her brother, not her son, for just half a second. She just hoped that she was able to instill in him a lesson as to the dangers of power.
***
Alan was Alan. He was the boy she would have been had she been a boy. Just as Alanna had once disguised herself as Alan to become a knight, he took it in stride when Alanna had announced that she planned to take Neal as her squire even though it would mean putting off his page training even longer. Sure he had been mad, but he had simply gone off and worked off his anger. It had been the same when she and George sent him off to Corus with tools that may have been very good, but were not the best. It may not have been public knowledge, but he knew what his mother had gifted to Kel. Only as he earned them, and his leather hilts were replaced with wire did he truly understand her love.
***
Aly was Alanna’s daughter, the child she never really understood. It seemed that no matter how Alanna tried to show her love, Aly would push away. From the flirting to the blue hair to running away, she was always more trouble than she was worth, but she wasn’t really. George knew that any girl Alanna raised would be trouble, yet when he looked at his daughter, he knew that she would be worth every trial and tribulation. Alanna knew this too. Even when she said she just wanted to strangle her daughter, she really wanted to wrap her in a hug and hold her safe until the end of time. It was knowing she couldn’t do this that really drove her crazy.
