Summary: After the news. Spoilers for Mastiff.
He wasn't sure what woke him, until he turned on his side and found Clary's half of the bed empty. The sheets were cold when he ran his arm across them, and with a sigh he rose and walked through to the small kitchen.
"Go back to bed, Tom," she said, not turning from her spot at the window. Moonlight filtered in, washing over the creases on her forehead and the slight downturn at the corner of her mouth.
Ignoring her, Tomlan went over and stood at her back, pressing a kiss to her shoulder. "You need to sleep. Three nights now and you still working full shifts - "
Her eyes were hard and stubborn when she looked at him, red-rimmed from held back tears. He almost flinched away. "How am I supposed to sleep," she said quietly, "after what that damned fool has done."
Tomlan had no answer for her. He went back to bed, alone.
