Summary: Quen thinks he's clear-headed.
If Quen were an artist and needed a muse, he would turn towards the Empress. It is one of her most unexplainable and most magical qualities, how she manages to bewitch both men and women, how she manages to twist them around her pinky finger. He knows, as a smart man should, that the whole court is but puppets, and she their puppeteer.
It's astonishing how many men do not realize it. He watches everyone chase her, run in circles for her. He watches her throw away lovers like bad hands of cards. He thinks poor them, the fools, so passionate and hot-headed.
So it is all the more surprisingly when he falls prey to her numerable charms, and a worse shock when he is imprisoned when trying to take her back.
(Quen forgot, you see, that passion isn't necessarily good).
