"I thought you'd be here," Numair says. He flicks the mechanism that lights the newly-installed mage globes in his mother's kitchen.
Daine turns at his voice, guiltily wiping her hands clean on the edge of her night-dress, "Don't do that! You startled me," she says. Then, a moment later, "We can never leave. They don't make them in Tortall."
"I warned you," he replies, looking half concerned and half smug, "I told you this would be a problem."
"It doesn't affect you," she said, accusing.
"Yes, but I built up a tolerance to my mother's canolis years ago."
