Title: Denial Prompts: Healing (#5) Summary: He does not need a mind healer. He is fine. There is nothing wrong with him. Right? Right? Rating: PG Words: 221 ~ ~ ~ You should see a mind healer. The words echo in Briar’s head. Part of him protests – he does not need to see a mind healer, he is perfectly healthy, and he is fine. Another part, a smaller part, knows this to be untrue. He is not fine, he is not perfectly healthy, and if, perhaps, he does not need a mind healer, he does need something. He goes through the same debate every night, his eyes closed but mind still spinning. Every night he comes to the same conclusion – that he does not need to come to a conclusion just yet. That he has more time. And each night he sleeps less and less. Finally comes a day when he cannot sleep at all. And the next night, Morpheus denies him entrance again. And again, and again, until the girls begin to notice something wrong. They do not say anything (has he really been so touchy that Tris and Sandry have decided to back off? Daja maybe but never the other two) until he collapses one day during dinner. Sleep deprivation they say when he wakes up again two days later. They fuss and coddle him until he is almost ready to scream. The next day he finds a mind healer who has a reputation for excellence and, more importantly, discretion.

I like how you used the prompt - how he's a little aware from the offset that he's in denial, and how that part of him grows. Mostly, though, I like that is the girls' behaviour which encourages him to seek help, well-meaning though it might be.
