Title: Peculiar Heroes Prompts: Food (#4) Summary: Some heroes do great deeds. Handsome knights in shining amour, mages in splendid robes. But then there are other types of heroes. Sharp tongued green mages. Loving stitch witches. Cook mages with big hearts. Rating: G Words: 183 ~ ~ ~ Some people, some mages, are heroes. They go out and do great deeds; they capture the castle, and save the princess, and stop the war. They get fame, and glory, half the kingdom, and the princesses hand in marriage. Other heroes are subtler; they heal the sick, they take in a foster child, and give until their hands bleed, They defend their home and their loved ones, all the while hating themselves for the deaths they cause. For this, they get nothing at all. Gorse is the later type of hero. He rarely leaves his kitchen (though when he does, it is always to great effect). He spends almost all of his time simply cooking. Rarely anything fancy, working food his mother called it, but between him and his staff, they make enough food to feed hundreds of dedicates and novices. His magic is rarely flashy or explosive. Few are actively appreciative of his food, though there are exceptions - a former street rat with a voracious appetite comes to mind. But while he is a peculiar hero, he is a hero still.

It's so nice to see a fic about Gorse! I love him and you've done a wonderful job of capturing his understated awesomeness.

Thank you! (seriously late response, I know)
Understated awesomeness might be the best description of Gorse that I've ever seen.
