Summary: He longs for her.

He watched her as she descended the stairs. There was no grace in her walk, only pride and determination. She was beautiful, really. All fire and passion and colour; red hair and violet eyes flaming against her dark mourning clothes. She was a proud Lioness stalking across this valley of pale, whispering dolls.

His cousin didn’t deserve such a striking thing. His feeble, obtuse cousin, who now wore his crown and sat on his throne. To him she was a pretty bauble, adorning his ego. Jonathan didn’t understand the possibility and complexity she possessed.

Roger did. Roger understood the Lioness.

I love the last sentence, because he doesn't, but I adore that he thinks he does.
