Title: Lovely and Simple Rating: G Prompt: #19 (Beginnings) Summary: I really like the idea of Varice, because she doesn't care about being important or powerful. She just likes being pretty. So I guess this is just my shout out to Varice!
She liked to bake because it was lovely and simple, like her. Because it wasn’t tedious and draining, like magic.
Pity she was in Carthak to study magic.
In Carthak, Varice always felt hounded by her teachers and Arram, academically insistent.
Something crashed outside. Varice’s eyes widened as she saw her delicate souffle collapse from the shock.
“No, no, NO!” Varice threw out her hand hopelessly. Pink fire shimmered through the air, gently lifting the souffle to puffed perfection.
Something occurred to Varice that hadn’t occurred to her before. She smiled. Carthak was still Carthak, but it was a beginning.

I really like this! Varice can be very misunderstood in fandom I think, because a lot of people only see her as a woman who comes between Numair and Daine. Great fic

I like how you've created the idea of her using her magic as something last minute and instinctual, rather than something planned.
I agree - Varice is so misunderstood, and the fandom seems to over-criticize her liking prettiness, as if pretty is somehow bad.
Well done!!

You've definitely given Varice a new dimension, something that makes her human and more than just a pretty face that is often overshadowed. A great take on the prompt!
