Title: Past Hauntings

Prompt: Hauntings - #2
Summary: Sabine is haunted by the killing of her Aunt.
Notes: Takes place when Sabine is younger, before she becomes a knight.
"Will I always be haunted by the past, ma?" Sabine asked her mother quietly.
Her mother shook her head. "Not always," she murmured, squatting down to Sabine's level. "If you want to become a knight, go for it."
Sabine looked at her, with fear in her eyes. "But Auntie became one and died." The younger girl whispered. "Now girls can't be knights."
Her mother smoothed down Sabine's hair with one hand. "Your Auntie knew that she might die," she told her daughter. "But that doesn't mean you will. Follow your dreams, sweet, and perhaps you'll understand the past. It's not always scary."
"This past is scary. It haunts me sometimes. Auntie was killed right in front of me, when she was protecting the king."
"Sweet, it won't be scary when you grow up. The past doesn't always haunt."
"Really?"
Her mother nodded. "It will get better, I promise."
"And ma?"
"Yes?"
"I want to be a knight just like Auntie."
