Title: Collection Rating: PG Prompt: "haunting" Summary: There are some things he will never tell.
Occasionally, he is awakened from a dead sleep in the night. One moment he is fighting one enemy or another, usually losing, and the next he will be sitting up in his bed, gasping for air, bed sheets soaked through with sweat.
Normally, he just has to see them, his family, to feel at ease. But there are those times when Alanna is away, Thom and Alan are in Corus, and Aly is off, doing whatever she does.
George’s only comfort is his ear collection. It reminds him his enemies from long ago are gone, dead. Haunting only his dreams.

The idea of finding comfort in an ear collection is so... sinister. But then - so is George's past, despite him being so chipper in comparison to other characters!

Lisa & Isha Thanks! George's ear collection is always something I wish I knew more about, and that people so often forget about. And sometimes, I think people forget George's past is ridden with more enemies than any of the other characters.

I love the idea of George having to resort to his ear collection for comfort.

This is a sad story, for George to be alone with the ghosts of his enemies. His coping mechanism is so interesting--reminding himself of his actions. even if people might not judge his killing to be quite as heroic as Alanna's, it has kept him alive. Really interesting.

May I was thinking about George, and figured he had the most haunting past. And I highly doubt he got rid of his ear collection when he became a baron. It is just not in his personality. =}
Kate Thank you!

Thank you!
George is one of my favorite characters to write about, expecially when I can point something out I feel is missed by most people.

That is freakishly good. George definitely wasn't the first character to spring to mind when I saw the prompt, but you did it well!

Oh my! You don't think of George as one to be bothered by his lawless ways, but this proves otherwise. The comfort he gets from his ear collection, that tangible proof of his past, is a nice and unexpected touch! Very clever and enjoyable.

Hmm... I think the Aly bit doesn't totally sit with me - in the books, they're quite close. Maybe reconsider that bit?
But good!

I love the inclusion of the ear collection in this prompt. Fantastic. I find it really funny actually, not creepy. Great work!

I like the ear collection. It reminds you that George really did have to be cruel, and he couldn't always be the nice funny guy.
