She strode through the crowds of the market fair with her proud chin up and her back straight; her large, hurried strides achieved only by a child of her dignity. Behind her, her twin held onto Maude’s hand like a wimpy baby goose, and Alanna of Trebond wanted nothing but to put distance between them out of embarrassment.
Yet, the annoying beating thing inside her chest was a traitor—it wanted her to stop being such a dooby and protect her brother from all the crooks in this world that dared want to harm his quiet and foolish, magic-filled head.
